I’ve learned that the simple act of kneeling on the floor and closing my eyes forces me to abandon distractions. Or I may listen to worship music or walk to a secluded spot. 

The feeling that drove Jesus to seek private times of prayer was a deep sense of his human inadequacy.

Though I might say I am nothing without God, I must think otherwise or I wouldn’t allow the busyness of life to squeeze to the margins my time with him.
